Her sexy weekend fling with the guy next door.

Ex-lawyer turned pregnancy model Danielle Hampton has one simple rule; never
date an attorney, even if he’s so deliciously hot she’s nicknamed him His Hotness Esquire. When her father asks her to strap on her silicone bump and pretend to be Casey Lowe’s pregnant fiancée in order to pull her family’s law firm out of trouble, her first answer is a resounding no! But she owes Casey for wrecking his pool.

Civil Rights Attorney Casey Lowe lives by a code of practice: never date his boss’s daughter, but he’ll do just about anything to make partner at the top law firm—even if it means violating his personal code. He hasn’t bargained on the fierce desire that burns hotter than the Mojave Desert and combusts every time he gets his boss’s daughter alone. She may drive him to distraction and melt in his arms, but will this party girl hang around long enough for him to convince her that all the best parties… are for two?

He clamped his teeth against his sudden, powerful reaction. What was wrong with him? This was California; he should be immune to the effects of seeing a half-naked woman by now. He shoved the phone along with his hands into his pockets. He only prayed Dani hadn’t noticed his blatant reaction to the sight of her.

She stepped forward. “I can fix this.”

He glowered. He knew because he’d perfected the look in the last six months. He followed her gaze over the mess of broken furniture and beer bottles her drunken friends had left behind. “How?”

“Please.” She closed the space between them, raising the fine hairs on his body. Her cool fingers closed on his forearm, sending heated warmth through him.

His muscles flexed involuntarily.

Her eyes darkened and she yanked her hand off him. “I’ll clear this all up. Replace the furniture. Get the pool cleaned. Whatever you want,” she said in a low edgy voice that increased his hunger for her. “I’ll owe you. Just please don’t call the cops.”

Whether her touch, or her imploring gaze, managed to slip past his shield he didn’t know but he found himself agreeing. Though he told himself he did so reluctantly, he had to admit when she turned that aquamarine gaze on him he wanted to give her whatever she asked.

“Fine, but I expect this place to be perfect by the time I return tomorrow evening.”

PARTY FOR TWO has a new cover! #Coverreveal #RomanceReaders #ContemporaryRomance #SexyRomance

Party For Two has a new cover!

If you remember the original cover, it had pretty pink silk sheets. I thought I'd try a cover featuring a couple instead to see if it makes a difference to book sales for this title. We shall see. If you are so inclined, I'd love to know what you think of the new cover.

Here are the covers compared.

“Answer the question, Lowe. Did you or did you not say—”

It should have wiped the smile off his face but if anything it brightened his grin. “Yes, I said it, but—”

“Just the facts, Lowe.”

He chuckled. “Why the hell did you ever give up law?” His mouth landed on hers and she hadn’t even seen it coming.

Dani refused to let her eyes drift shut. Refused to let the sweet sensation of Casey’s lips on hers seduce her. She should pull back. Push him away. She got as far as planting her palms on his chest—his hard chest with the solid muscles that flexed beneath her fingers. Then, as if they operated independently of her brain, her hands bunched in his shirt front, tugged him closer. Her lids became too heavy and fluttered closed. The tip of his tongue caressed the seam of her lips. They softened, parted of their own accord. He accepted the invitation, slid his tongue in slow bewitching strokes inside her mouth. A shudder skittered through her, coaxing a sigh from her.

She was going to push him away… in a minute… any minute now… just one more second…

He made a half growl kind of sound deep in his throat then broke the kiss. “How’s that for a fact?”

Dani blinked. She couldn’t think. Every muscle in her body had jellified. She’d never been kissed stupid before.

THE WEDDING FAVOR Release Day #Romance #ILovetoRead #NewRelease #RomanceReaders

Release day has finally arrived for The Wedding Favor

When unlucky-in-love Erin Hart’s workaholic boss asks her to attend a family wedding as his fake girlfriend, hiding her secret crush becomes an impossible task.

Will a favor lead to forever?

A wedding favor for her secret crush…

When unlucky-in-love personal assistant Erin Hart enters her boss’s New York office to resign her job, she doesn’t expect to exit as his fake-girlfriend for an upcoming family wedding. How is she going to keep her crush a secret when she has to share a room… and a bed… with Max for one sizzling weekend in the UK?

Workaholic CEO Max Ferrell understands women only too well: they either want his body or his money. But fiery, sexy Erin is different and recruiting her to help curtail his over-zealous, matchmaking sisters is proving that it’s far more fun to play while you work. Especially when his prim and proper PA helps him to set the sheets ablaze. But falling for her was not in the plan and if he’s not careful, the next wedding might be his own.

“Look out!” A female voice shouted a second before a wave of water hit the top of Erin Hart’s head and cascaded down her body.
Erin squealed, jerking back way too late to avoid disaster. It was just her bad luck to be passing a café awning the moment someone decided to upend the canopy of collected rainwater from last night’s heavy downpour. One minute, she’d been striding along East 23rd Street at 7:15 a.m. trying to work up the courage to resign her job. The next, she stood—shocked motionless—dripping wet in the middle of the sidewalk.
Max Ferrell, CEO of Ferrell Alliance, Inc, the real estate investment firm on Madison Avenue where she worked, had been hijacking her thoughts for the last three years—and especially this morning—leaving her oblivious to the potential hazard ahead.
Clutching her tote with one hand as she worked to catch the breath the sudden splash of chilled water had snatched, she swiped the other down the front of her brown office dress. Did she really hope she would be able to brush the wetness from the material as easily as she would a speck of dust? When her frantic effort made little difference, she shook herself, much like Buttercup—her teacup Yorkshire terrier—would have.
Sensing eyes on her, she glanced at a couple of snickering teenage girls in tight jeans and tighter T-shirts who gave her a wide berth as they passed.
Suddenly aware of the spectacle she was making; she raised her chin, squared her shoulders, pasted on a smile, and forced one sensible-pumped foot in front of the other until the momentum had her fast-pacing it to Ferrell Alliance, Inc.
Of course, she accumulated countless stares on her way, but she’d faced humiliation more than once in her lifetime. By now, it was a piece of cherry pie to her. Even her crush on Max was proving humiliating. How much longer would she be able to hide the fact that he made her heart pound and her insides flutter?
Her cell jingled from deep inside her brown leather tote and she dove for it. Without checking, she knew who was calling. It would be her sister Nicole, wondering whether she’d given Max her resignation. That would be a big fat no. She’d attempted to hand it in several times over the last week but, each time, Max’s reliance on her as his PA got in the way. It was now Monday, the start of a fresh week and she still had the pristine envelope in her handbag. Every time she pictured handing him her resignation it sent nervous sensations and sorrow swirling in her belly.
Her family needed her and, instead of leaving New York and returning to Baltimore to help her three sisters save the family business, she’d allowed her monumental crush on her boss and his dependence on her to stall her. As a result, her sisters were struggling to keep Hart to Hart Restorations afloat without any help from her.
It took four stabs before her wet fingers managed to let her answer the call, while Nicole’s smiling face stared at her from the screen.
“Hi, Nik. Before you ask, no, I haven’t told Max I’m leaving yet. I’ll do it soon. Promise.” Just as soon as she came to terms with not getting to see Max five days a week—sometimes more when she traveled with him on business trips. She was going to miss her job. Miss the business trips and the challenge of being his assistant. But most of all she was going to miss Max.
“It’s not looking good, hon. We could really use your help around here.”
Guilt washed over her right about the same time a speeding taxi sailed through a deep puddle of settled water and she experienced her second dousing of the morning. Dripping wet, she clutched the phone at her side with a death-grip, trying to catch her breath. A bubble of laughter tickled her belly, and she saw the funny side. Here she was, trying to look calm, cool and pristine enough to hand in her notice to Max, only for some wicked, unseen imp to have fun at her expense.
“Erin?” Nicole’s voice filtered through the cell. Obviously hearing Erin’s laugh, which probably veered close to hysteria, had her sister wondering what had happened.
Bringing the phone to her ear, she swiped the back of her other hand across her eyes. “I’ll call you later, Nik.” She cut the call, wishing she could rewind and start her morning again.
Every time she’d ever taken a risk it had turned out to be a huge mistake. Deciding to walk to work today instead of taking a taxi just proved she shouldn’t take risks. She closed her eyes and in that moment the last three years flashed through her mind. What was she doing? She’d meant to lay low working as Max’s PA, desperate to avoid the people who’d witnessed her humiliating experience back home when her fiancé had jilted her on the night of their wedding rehearsal.

All she’d wanted was time to heal emotionally until she was able to branch out on her own and start her dream business of flipping houses. Instead, she’d developed a crush on her boss and now she was putting her futile attachment to him before her family’s needs. Up until now, she’d hesitated, afraid of losing Max. But really, she never had him. He barely noticed she existed. She heaved in a deep breath, then released it on a sigh. Every thought of him came with a painful pinch at his rejection. The only way she would get over her crush was to put as many miles between the two of them as she could. The notion made her heart hurt, but working with Max and knowing he just didn’t see her as more than his assistant hurt more. Being so close to him, yet not being free to do anything about her feelings made her days impossible to bear.

It was time she started taking risks. Time she took back control of her life. And it started with handing Max Ferrell her resignation.

What? She's a Christian and She Writes That?? #Romance #Writing #BookJunkie #Contemporaryromance

For many years, I've struggled to reconcile the type of romance I write with my Christianity. I love romance and I love writing romance. There's something so utterly special about falling in love that deserves to be celebrated.

Yes, I could write Christian romance, but I prefer spicy reads. Since it's becoming more difficult to find clean, spicy romance novels, I tend to write those. My characters don't use profanity, and most certainly never blasphemies. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be preachy, and I have nothing against people who use such language. God gave us free will and allows us to use it to our hearts' content.

When I first started my writing adventure--several years ago, I found that Harlequin Mills & Boon romances were a guaranteed fun read. All the romance and heat, and no profanity, which is why, for many years, I focused my writing toward the Harlequin Mills & Boon market. As a result, I began writing sexy love scenes in order to fit, first the Harlequin Mills & Boon Presents line, then Modern Tempted (KISS), and finally their Blaze line.

If you've ever read these novels, you'll know the bedroom door stays wide, wide open. You may think that as a Christian I shouldn't be writing explicit love scenes, and I'm well aware that they're sweet romance lines out there, but here is my problem. What is the point of writing novels for a sweet romance line because the books avoid depicting fully recognized love scenes, but some have absolutely no problem with using the Lord's name in vain?

I'd rather write hot love scenes than to ever use the Lord's name as a curse word!

And here is my other reason. I'm not the only Christian woman who enjoys spicy novels. I know of quite a few who secretly read books far, far more a-hem...erotically explicit! I feel like it's my duty to present an alternative for the sake of Christian women everywhere who enjoy spicy romance. I only have to view the number of negative reviews on some books to see that there's a market for my books. Many readers complain about the volume of profanity in the books out there, yet they buy them all the same, which shows they want the spicy reads but not the profanity.

Yes, it is true that we live in the age of profanity, but not all of us enjoy reading or hearing it. I, for one, find it highly distasteful. I'm a firm believer that the use of profanity is a sign of limited vocabulary. You may not agree since we're in modern times, writing for modern tastes. Call me old-fashioned but I don't want to read or write anything that makes me uncomfortable. And, like I said, I'm not the only one.

So there you have it. The reason I write spicy romance is because I like them. And did I mention that sex is in the Bible? When you read passages like: and he went into her, or unto her...what do you suppose that means? As a Bible believing Christian I believe I can follow wherever the Bible leads.

If I had to pinpoint my audience, I'd say it's readers who enjoy sweet and spicy romantic comedy. Readers who love to laugh, who enjoy tasteful, explicit love scenes. Readers who love spice without the bitter aftertaste.

If you’re a Christian woman who likes your romance heartwarming, yet sexy. If you enjoy potent chemistry, humor and sizzling heat. Try a Monique DeVere romance.

And if you're not a Christian but you enjoy this type of romance, I'd be thrilled if you give my stories a try, too.

#NewRelease SEXIEST EYE CANDY #Romance #Kindle

I have a New Release and it has a story.

Sexiest Eye Candy was originally intended for the Mills & Boon Modern Romance (KISS) line, but half way through I changed my mind and pulled the partial from HMB slush pile.

I mention this to give you and idea of the type of book Sexiest Eye Candy is. It's spicy--OK some readers have already told me HOT!--yet, simple, clean romance. There isn't a whole lot of external plot since the focus is on the internal issues and the romance.

Looking for more plot? Why not try Zach's Rebound Girl?

If you enjoy Harlequin type romances, I think you'll enjoy Sexiest Eye Candy. However, if you don't like fluffy romance--which is predominately what I write--you might want to give this story a miss, I won't hold it against you ヅ.

My hero Ethan Stone is a successful TV weight-loss coach--a sexy celebrity. And this guy is so sexy he has the title to prove it.

My heroine Karis Van de Burke is a talented cosmetic surgeon looking for that illusive "something" that's missing from her life.

He’s so sexy he has the title to prove it!

Super-hunky, weight-loss celebrity Ethan Stone brings out Dr. Karis Van de Burke’s inner bad-girl. To prove it, when Ethan accepts the challenge to persuade the sassy, love-rejected cosmetic surgeon to appear as a guest on his show, she ends up inviting him into her bed for one night of guilty pleasure instead.

Used to women throwing themselves at him boobs first, Ethan knows his way around every female erogenous zone, but the sizzling chemistry he has with Karis blindsides him. Soon he’s convincing her to extend their one-night to another ... and another ... and...

Karis can’t resist! Yet, if Ethan discovers her secret, he’ll ditch her as fast as her ex-fiancé had – but really, what could go wrong in a one-week, tangle-free, affair?

Excerpt

Her expression guarded, she worked the tissue over his cheek with a light stroke, as if she was afraid to touch him. Yet she managed to make the deed feel more like a caress than a platonic chore. She may avoid meeting his gaze as she worked him over with the tissue, but he knew she was as aware as he of their sizzling chemistry.
He’d seen the flash of heat in her eyes just before his fan interrupted. By the time he’d dealt with the girl, Karis had erased every trace of desire from her face and had looked at him as though the thought of touching him repulsed her. So he’d pushed the issue for the hell of it, and forced her to do it anyway. He could have gone to the washroom to scrub off the lipstick, but he liked the idea of Karis performing the intimate task for him.

Six Sentence Sunday 25/11/12 ~ DIVORCE ETIQUETTE #1

This Sunday's six comes from my contemporary romance. Divorce Etiquette is Michelle & Andrew's reunion story, published by The Wild Rose Press.

They're breaking every rule of divorce etiquette!
Sometimes, a whirlwind marriage doesn’t lead to happily-ever-after…Nor does a quickie divorce.

Turnaround expert Andrew Boston can turn any failing business into a huge success, but he couldn’t fix his marriage. A family tragedy left Andrew unable to commit to fatherhood, but he can’t let Michelle walk away. He’s determined to win her back and prove a relationship between the two of them can work perfectly well without bringing children into the equation…

Corporate lawyer Michelle Boston divorced Andrew two and a half years ago—and for good reason. She learnt a whirlwind marriage did not mean happily-ever-after. Nor, unfortunately, did a quickie divorce.

Especially when neither Andrew nor Michelle can stick to the first rule of divorce etiquette: no kissing!

SUNDAY SIX:

"I brought you something you forgot at the house this morning."

Michelle continued to frown as she ran through the few items she’d had with her yesterday—namely the clothes she’d been wearing, and she’d put them all back on.

Hadn’t she?

"Really?" She could barely bring herself to ask. "What’s that?"

"This." His warm lips covered hers.

More Than Friends--A Sexy Romantic Comedy

Good Monday morning!

Hope you had a lovely weekend, because mine was flat-out wonderful!

Why is that, you ask?

Because my new Romantic Comedy, More Than Friends, was released this weekend. I'm so juiced about this new road I've taken. As a few of you know, for a very long time I stood at a career crossroads trying to decide which road to take.

I had faith that I would eventually choose the right road, but still I neglected to do one crucial thing--take a step! I'm glad I finally moved my feet, (faith without works is dead James 2:20 NKJV) because this road is amazing. The scenery is breath-taking and the sun seems a lot brighter here. The skies are so clear and so azure that I don't think a single dark cloud has ever marred them. And there's definitely no sign of that awful black cloud that I found myself walking under for the last few years.

In case I lost you somewhere up there, I'm not really talking about roads, but following your dreams. And my dream was to become an Indie publisher. I know a lot of writers don't understand why an author would want to go it alone when--if she has any talent--she can grab an agent who will snag her an eye-popping fab publishing deal and all she has to do is sit back, write, have someone approve and publish what she writes, then repeat.

I am also aware that some of the "big" authors believe Indie publishing is for untalented writers who would never make it as authors if they didn't publish their work themselves. They imagine these books are substandard and unworthy of reading.  This is so far from the truth, it isn't funny, but it makes me laugh anyway, because I don't think I have ever read a book by any big author published with major publishing houses that didn't contain mistakes, typos, name changes etc.

I've found lots of amazing books which were published by talented Indie authors who had the foresight to cut out the middle men. Why split you pot of gold when you can keep it for yourself?

Lots of writers prefer to write for a publisher, but I never did. I like having control of every aspect of my work, and I thank God that He keeps adding to my talents. I thank Him, too, that I finally got the confidence to go it alone and start on the Indie Publishing road.

My new Romantic Comedy is the beginning of a marvelous journey which I intend to continue. I'm no longer targeting Mills & Boon, but will concentrate on writing what I should have been writing long ago--romantic comedy, mystery suspense. So watch this space!

I'd like to introduce More Than Friends, a friends to lovers romance about colliding loyalties. It's a story I thoroughly enjoyed writing and publishing.

Blurb

She just broke the Best Friends’ Code of Honour!

What do you do when your best friend’s fella dumps her?

You get drunk, catch a cab to his place, offer to bop him on the nose, then... sleep with him?

Lily Harper should have taken her secret attraction to Justin Knight into consideration before rushing to his swanky apartment. Now she’s caught in a dilemma. Lose her best friend, or the out-of-this-world sexy guy who could be The One.

Justin fell for Lily almost from the moment he met her, but she was with someone else and he'd  just started seeing her best friend. Now Lily is available, and so is he, only, he isn’t having much luck making her see that sometimes when loyalties collide, a girl has to choose love!

Excerpt

“The fact of the matter is—” he nuzzled her ear “—I’m going to kiss you and every guy in this place is going to go wild with envy because I’m the lucky sod who gets to do it.”

Lily sucked in a breath, missed a step. He was making love to her, disguised as a dance. People were beginning to take an interest.  He’d made her a spectacle.

“Justin, people are watching.”

“Sweetheart, that’s nothing new, they’ve been riveted from the moment you first walked in the room.”

“Are you sweet talking me?”

He pulled back, his gaze darkening.  “Only if it’s working.” While his hand caressed her back where the dressed dipped, he stroked his other thumb against her palm.

Goose bumps raised her flesh. Oh, it was working. That and the off-the-wall chemistry between them. Every part of her craved his touch.

He turned her, dipped his head, and took the kiss he’d warned her he was going to take. It was as if everything stood still, the room, the hum of conversation, the mellow music, Lily’s heart—everything.

Divorce Etiquette Is Now On Kindle

I'm please to share the news that Divorce Etiquette is now on Amazon Kindle!

Divorce Etiquette
by Monique DeVere

A Contemporary Romance (Reunion/Second Chance Romance) available from The Wild Rose Press and several other online book stores including Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.

Blurb:

Excerpt:

He hunched down next to her chair, leaned in a couple of inches to add intimacy to his deep rumbling tone. "I have a few rules of my own."

Michelle gulped. This was going to be harder than she thought. "You're breaking the second rule."

"Am I?" He was so close her stomach did a little flip. She wanted to lose herself in his beautiful smoky gaze. "You made five rules. I want five too."

"You do?" What restrictions could he possibly put on her? She was completely innocent in this. If he would just keep his distance, she could move on, and everything would be fine.

"Rule six," he began, his gaze roaming over her face. "Stop looking at me as if you'd like to lick ice cream right off me."

Michelle gasped under the shock of his evocative words. A memory of her doing just that hit her low in her belly.

Before she could recover, he continued, "Rule seven. No wearing sexy little hipsters that flash your underwear when you bend over."

That did it. Her gasp turned to a splutter, her face suffused with heat that had nothing to do with the warm sunshine.

"Rule eight," he continued, as though she wasn't about to suffocate under the weight of embarrassment. "Don't wear your hair down. It makes me want to bury my hands in it.

"Rule nine. No wearing little black dresses--they make me want to see you naked."

His cultured voice reverberated through her until every nerve in her body jangled, her bones melted, and a shuddering sigh escaped her.

"And ten, no more crying." He didn't even seem to notice she'd practically dissolved at his feet. "It makes your mouth pouty and far too kissable." He stood and took the Maplewood chair opposite Michelle's, his knee brushing hers as he sat down.

Obviously, rule five meant nothing to him.
