Wow! It's almost the end of the year. Where did it go? I'm sure many of you are asking the same question. This past year I got caught up in a lot of life and, as a result, I ended up neglecting my blog.

I aim to do so much better in 2016! I've started the new Dish The Pie segment where I'll be interviewing my fab fellow authors and getting them to share their favourite pie recipes with us. We've already had Forgotten Cookies with KD Harp. And tomorrow we have my dear friend Chicki Brown on the segment taking Death By Chocolate cake and her Stafford Brothers series. I can't wait!

As well as the Dish The Pie segment, I'll be sharing samples of my published books every Monday. I also plan to reimplement writing a new weekly episodic story, so stay tuned for that!

“I know you, Maddie. You may have matured, but there is one part of your personality I’d lay bets on hasn’t changed. You’ll let your emotions get involved ... and then you’ll get hurt.”

“I’ll have you know I’ve had plenty of one-night stands, and I haven’t gotten emotionally involved once.” She pointed a forefinger straight up in front of his face, getting carried away with her effort to appear experienced.

He looked unimpressed, sexy and tousled from when her hands had mussed his hair during their kiss on stage. She wanted to do it all over again.

“I don’t believe you.”

Her mouth fell open at the sheer audacity of the man. Okay she was lying, but he had no way of knowing that. She could’ve had thousands of affairs for all he knew. “You don’t even know me. I’ve changed.”

Electric tension vibrated between them. He was staring at her mouth again, his jaw stiff, eyes doing that glitter thing once more. 

“I don’t think so. Underneath all that sophistication you’re still the sweet girl I used to know.”

Goaded into retaliation, Maddie followed the first crazy impulse that popped into her head. 

“Oh really? Would a ‘sweet girl’ do this?”

Before he had time to take a breath, Maddie threw her arms around Zach’s neck and plastered herself to him.

As kisses went, she nearly cracked a tooth with her surprise attack. He wrapped his arms around her as he staggered back. Pleasant shock rippled through her. Zach didn’t push her away. He was kissing her back. He crushed her against his chest, growled low in his throat, and deepened the kiss.

A metallic click interrupted whatever Zach was about to say. 

She glanced over her shoulder. 

Her heart nearly leapt out of her chest, a trillion pinpricks of shock and fear exploded through her. 

Zach’s arms tightened around her as they both stared toward the person walking out from behind the wide trunk of an oak tree, a small gun clasped between hands at chest level, elbows locked, contempt glinting from a cold glare.

THIS WAS not the Maddie Zach knew. His Maddie was sweet and pure and made him want to protect her.

The Maddie who luxuriated in a bubbling hot tub only inches from him, had need surging through him. She was tanned, lively, and altogether too desirable. And she made him ache to devour her in all the ways a man could enjoy a woman.  

He stuffed his hands into his jean’s front pockets to stop himself from reaching for her, disliking the fact that five minutes in Maddie’s company turned him into a basic, primal male. 

In fact, he hated it a lot.

I have to admit, I never know what to blog about. I'm not big on opening my life on the Internet, and I often feel I'm speaking to myself anyway. If you've visited this blog more than once, you might have noticed I recently disconnected the comments feature on this blog. 

To be honest, the lack of interaction was getting me down, and making me reluctant to blog. Now I've removed the choice for readers to comment, I feel somewhat better--freer, I guess. So, I thought I'd gas a bit about my latest decisions and my plans--book wise. You didn't think I was about to give you personal gossip, did you? :) 

You may or may not be aware that late last year I submitted a partial to Harlequin Mills & Boon's KISS line. Becoming a Mills & Boon author has been a dream of mine since I was eighteen. Trust me, it been a lot of years trying to get my foot in HMB's door. It took that long because I often sulked for a few months after each rejection: 4 rejections in total, and two revision letters. All in all, not bad. That it happened over twenty-five year span is pitiful! I know. But I have a couple of degrees, so not a complete waste of interruptions.

Anyway, last year I knew in my bones I'd finally cracked the illusive HMB formula--for want of a better word. I emailed my partial to Head Office and waited until the beginning of this year. I haven't heard a decision on the partial, but I no longer expect to.

Why? You ask?

Because I pulled the MS from Harlequin Mills & Boon a few days into the New Year. I've made a huge decision with regards to my writing career. I no longer wish to submit my book to publishing houses. From now on, I consider myself a full-fledged Independent Author. I like the freedom it gives me. I like that I can write whatever I like. And I like that I don't have to worry about guidelines. 

I have a shiny new book coming out this month. It's called Zach's Rebound Girl and is a full length novel. It's a saucy romantic comedy, mystery suspense. I shall be unvealing the cover very soon and posting chapter one over at my Facebook Fan page. Zach & Maddie have left the building

I've finished the revisions for Zach's Rebound Girl and have re-subbed it to HMB! Now to get on with a few other stories. I expect it'll be a while before I hear anything from HMB, but I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.

Heard From HMB

Well it's been a while since I sent the requested complete MS of Zach's Rebound Girl (aimed at HMB's Modern Heat series) to Harlequin Mills & Boon. To say I fully expected an instant reject would be putting it calmly!

I heard from the Modern Heat senior editor last week and to my immense surprise, she gave me wonderful feedback, mentioned that if I revised Zach's Rebound Girl,  she would be happy to assess it again!

I'm juiced and petrified all at once! Afraid to make a wrong choice and excited to finally get so close to a contract offer from Harlequin Mills and Boon. If I manage to get my secondary characters under control, fix the things the editor suggested and am offered a contract, it would be a twenty-year-long dream come true. 

Twenty years sounds like a long time when I look at it but, in reality, Zach's Rebound Girl is only the fifth MS I've subbed to HMB--I pouted a lot and for a long time between each rejection! My advice to any writer targeting a specific market? Don't get so disheartened that it takes you over twenty years to reach the same place many authors do in two, three or six years.

Pouting is bad!!

To begin with, after reading the revision letter several times, I couldn't settle on the right direction for ZRG. I mean, cut the secondary character scenes and you have to change quite a bit of the story's direction.

I think I have a handle on where I'm taking Zach and Maddie now so my head doesn't hurt half as much any more.
